Every panel reflects the room it's standing in, the lights above it, and usually the photographer — which is why most vehicle photographs look like a car in a parking lot rather than a car worth wanting. Controlling what a car reflects is most of the job, and it's the difference between a listing people scroll past and one they open. Paint depth, panel gaps, stitch lines, the machining inside a caliper — that detail is the entire argument for a shop's labour rate, and it only survives if it's lit deliberately. We work indoors with controlled light and long exposures where the space allows, killing reflections that don't serve the shape and keeping the ones that do. Engine bays and interiors get shot as their own problem rather than as an afterthought at the end of the day, because they're where the money went.
Location & Feature Shoots
Location work lives or dies on two decisions made before the shutter opens: where the car is standing, and what time you got there. We scout in advance and shoot the window either side of sunset, when the sky still has color but the light is low enough to run along a body line instead of flattening it. Expect a car to be moved several times over an hour; the difference between a good vehicle photograph and a great one is usually twenty minutes and forty feet.
